The Mercedes-Benz E 500 embodied perfect understatement. Mercedes-Benz AG commissioned its production to Porsche. The zero series was built in April 1990 while the series production ran from 1991 to 1995. Weissach specialists modified and lowered the suspension by 23 millimetres. The Porsche-optimised four-valve V8 of the 500 SL and a Porsche-developed brake system lent the luxury limousine the characteristics of a comfortable high-performance sports car. Rave reviews came from the trade press and customers. After debuting at the Paris Motor Show in October 1990, the production run was sold within a very short time – 10,479 units were built in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen which were initially sold as Mercedes-Benz 500 E.
