After 16 years of absence Porsche returned to the top class of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and thus to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2014. With a system output in excess of 662 kW (900 PS), the completely re-developed, extremely complex 919 Hybrid is the fastest test laboratory and the most innovative race car that Porsche has built to date. Porsche completed eight races in 2014 and finished third overall. On the way, the 919 won four pole positions in its first year in 2014, and achieved the first victory in the final race of the season, a six-hour race in São Paulo, Brazil. In 2015, the 919 Hybrid became the dominating car in the WEC season. In the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 919 Hybrids achieved a double victory. At the end of the season, the manufacturer and driver titles of the World Endurance Championship went to Zuffenhausen. In 2016, Porsche won both titles again, and in the process secured the 18th overall victory for the brand in Le Mans. Also in the 2017 season, Porsche competed in the WEC with a fundamentally re-engineered 919 Hybrid – and completed the hattrick at Le Mans. After the last race in Bahrain, the 34th race in total, the record achievements of the Porsche 919 Hybrid were impressive: 20 pole positions, 17 victories including seven double victories, 13 fastest race laps and six World Championship titles.
