For the first time ever, 40 identical 911 race cars compete against each other at the 1990 Porsche Carrera Cup. Based on the 911 Carrera 2, a Cup version is developed in the autumn of 1989. Its interior is missing the back seats and there is no acoustic damping or under-body protection. However, the car features a security roll cage for added safety. The largely standard 3.6-litre engine with dual ignition provides 265 hp, thanks to slightly modified ignition electronics and a revised exhaust. This racing machine lies 55 millimetres lower than its standard counterpart.
