A journey back in time through the history of Porsche

Barrier-free Museum

The Porsche Museum offers a barrier-free access. Several lifts take you to all exhibition floors. Toilets for wheelchair users are available on the ground floor as well as on the third floor. Wheelchairs and portable folding stools can be requested in advance. The exhibits are easily accessible for wheelchair users and are at eye-level. Our Porsche Museum guides are trained in dealing with people with special needs.

The co-existence of people with and without disabilities is supported by a mutual understanding for each other. Since 2014, the Porsche Museum has devoted a separate theme week to all visitors with disabilities. The origin of this project is rooted in the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which has been launched by the United Nations in 1992 and is observed worldwide on 3 December. “We would like to not only make it possible for people with disabilities to experience Porsche, but also to provide non-disabled persons with an impression of what life is like with a physical or psychological disability,” explains Achim Stejskal, Director of the Porsche Museum.

The programme includes museum tours and awareness tours. The latter tours offer a change in perspective for persons without a disability. They are confronted with unusual tasks at special stations: what is it like to not see a vehicle, but to feel it? How is it possible to explain a sports car without spoken words? What does it feel like to be unable to move, or to find your way around or talk freely? There are also museum tours for the visually impaired and tours through the exhibition and the factory in simple language, as well as tours for the hearing impaired with sign language interpreters.
