Porsche 924 Carrera GTS Rallye

Long before Germany’s double World Rally Champion Walter Röhrl joins Porsche in 1993 as a make ambassador and development driver, the paths of the rallying legend and the sports car manufacturer cross many times. One of those encounters happens in 1981, when Röhrl takes a break from the world rally stage and contests the German Rally Championship, the world famous San Remo Rally, and long-distance races with support from the race department. Röhrl tackles the rounds of the German Rally Championship driving the Porsche 924 Carrera GTS Rallye. This transaxle sports car with rear-wheel-drive is based on the 924 Carrera GTS and prepared for rallying with a reinforced chassis, 911 Turbo brakes, a short-ratio gearbox, and competition features like a safety cage. Built in just eight weeks, the 924 with Röhrl at the wheel claims overall victory at its first test outing and goes on to net three more wins and a second place.
